HELP for HAITI

After six months, there are few visible signs of improvement in Haiti.

United Methodist Communications is working to provide timely and relevant information about how The United Methodist Church is responding to the tragic earthquake in Haiti and how United Methodists can support these efforts. United Methodists have had a long-standing relationship with Haiti through the Methodist Church of Haiti.

The United Methodist News Service has already posted stories on the tragedy and will have ongoing coverage about United Methodist mission teams that are in Haiti, response efforts by the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and what local churches are doing to provide aid. Stay tuned to http://www.umc.org/haiti for more information.

LUMC can support relief efforts in Haiti by sending your check made out to Lansdale United Methodist Church and indicating “Haiti Emergency” in the memo section. Your donation will go to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). 100% of gifts to UMCOR support the designated project.

Charitable Contribution Deduction
On January 20, 2010, the House unanimously passed H.R. 4462, which would allow taxpayers who make monetary contributions to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti after January 11, 2010, and before March 1, 2010, to claim an itemized charitable contribution deduction on their 2009 return, rather than wait until 2010 to claim the deduction. The Senate is expected to quickly pass identical legislation, the Haiti Assistance Income Tax Incentive (HAITI) Act (S. 2936).
